Istanbul born & raised, Berlin based artist Hüma Utku explores the possibilities of how sound textures and rhythm can be used to evoke a sense of ancient within abstract electronics. She fuses the elements of industrial, ambient and techno with field recordings and traditional instruments, as she approaches music as a tool for storytelling. Her main inspirations are human condition, psychology, mysticism and social topics.
Since her release ''Her Trembling Ceased'' via Partapart Records under the moniker R.A.N. (Roads At Night), Utku has been touring Europe and the Middle East. Şeb-i Yelda EP, released in August 2018 by Karlrecords, presented Utku (as R.A.N.) with an evolved sound and strong theme to a wider audience. Following this, she released her debut album under her own name GNOSIS in July 2019 via the same label.
Her work has been reviewed and featured in notable press outlets such as The Wire, Noisey, Groove Mag, Scene Noise, Magnetic Mag and Electronic Sound among many others.
